The ride started in Hyde Park, as usual in front of the impressive Achilles statue. The day was sunny and warm, and this probably motivated the 110 cyclists that came along to get on their bike and tackle some hills. The group was a mix of new people, familiar faces and an incredible range of bicycles. We had brought back our ‘boom box’ mounted on an electric bike this time, to blow some tunes (and climb the hills easily!).

We left Hyde Park around 11am and cycled through Paddington to access the canal passing by Regent’s Park. We then went towards our first planned stop: the view from Primrose Hill.

We used some quiet back roads to reach Hampstead Heath where we walked up the very steep Parliament Hill. At the top, some of us enjoyed a well-deserved treat: ice cream! Despite having already tackled Primrose Hill our ascent was not over: the next hill in Highgate Village was a tough one. The riders took a break at the top to catch their breath and to fix the two punctures of the day.

Our next goal was Alexandra Palace, a spot that offers one of the best panoramic views over London. It was a good occasion for a group photo.

The next part of the route brought us through a bumpy nature reserve path from Highgate to Finsbury Park. ‘Parkland Walk’ is on the site of an old railway track; the path is completely traffic free, very quiet and surrounded by trees. It’s an ideal place to take a walk or bike ride to escape the restlessness of the city.

Finally, we cycled down through Highbury and Barnsbury until we arrived at a pub called the Star of Kings near King’s Cross. A few pints of beer and a Sunday roast was the perfect way to end up the day.
