Renting a bike

Just arrived in London? In need of a bike for a couple of hours or a few days? There are plenty of places where you can rent a bike.

Barclay’s Cycle Hire

The scheme is easy to use and offer docking stations all around London. Pick up a bike from one location, drop it at another one when you’ve finished riding. Find out more here.

How it works:

  • Hire: Go to the nearest docking station terminal with your debit or credit card. Touch the screen to begin, select ‘Hire a cycle’and follow instructions. Take the printed release code.
  • Ride: Choose your bike and check the tyres, brakes and bell. Type your five-digit release code into the docking point’s silent keypad and pull the bike out when the green light appears.
  • Return: Push the bike firmly into any empty docking point. You must wait for the green light, which will show that the bike is securely docked. If the docking station is full, select ‘No docking point free’ at the terminal and follow the on-screen directions.

How much it costs: see the prices here.
